As we develop throughout our lives we often change and create an image of who we would like to be. This image changes over time depending on our needs, wants, and desires. These ideas and environmental factors that contribute to the images that shape who we are, are often a reflection of our self worth. But what if these contributing factors are negative, how can this affect our self worth? When we develop a negative image of ourselves it is hard to understand our individual worth.
To change how we view ourselves, we have to take the time to develop a better self-esteem. We have to start by believing and loving who we are. That means loving our bodies, height, and our unique attributes. Loving everything about you, flaws and all is how we begin to change how we value our self worth. Just like wine, it takes time to develop the flavors and characteristics of a well rounded beverage. It will take time to change the negative way we view ourselves so that we are able to develop a more positive outlook. The time that it takes to develop a more positive self-esteem is as unique as our individual needs. This process will be ongoing throughout our lives because we are always evolving. And that’s ok, we are all a work in progress and there is no shame in where you stand.
The next thing we will need to take on is understanding how we contribute to society? It is important to know how our knowledge, experiences, and skills contribute to our well-being. We will also be able to better identify how we contribute to those around us. This is an important step because it helps us to determine how our individuality is helpful. Once we are better able to identify these attributes, then we can understand how invaluable we truly are.
We have to be willing to accept our flaws while focusing on our strengths. It’s important to check in with yourself every now and then. No, talking to yourself is not strange, this inner dialogue helps to identify how we feel about ourselves. If you notice that you are finding more negative than positive attributes then it’s time to reevaluate our self worth. Some questions you could answer about yourself include:
What do I want out of life right now?
What can I do to make these changes possible?
What makes me unique?
What am I missing?
How do I feel right now?
These questions may seem simple or even silly, but they help us to identify our individual qualities. You matter, your thoughts, ideas, abilities, and skills all matter. Our unique differences are as beautiful as each new day, and should be celebrated as an important contribution to our society.
Happy discovery.
